Our Focus on Early Literacy

Early literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning and academic success. At Toledo Public Schools, we prioritize high-quality instruction in reading and writing from the earliest grades. Our curriculum is aligned with the science of reading and Ohio’s Learning Standards, ensuring students build strong skills in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. We are committed to providing early support, engaging families, and using data to meet the needs of every young learner.

Our Commitment to K–12 Mathematics

We are dedicated to ensuring every student receives a high-quality mathematics education from Birth through 12th grade. Our district’s math curriculum is aligned with Ohio’s Learning Standards and is designed to build deep conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world problem-solving skills. Through engaging, rigorous instruction and equitable access to high-quality resources, we aim to develop confident, capable math learners who are prepared for success in college, careers, and life. We are committed to continuous improvement, data-informed instruction, and providing ongoing support for teachers, students, and families in the pursuit of mathematical excellence.

Our Commitment to K–12 Science Education

We believe science education is essential for preparing students to think critically, solve complex problems, and engage as informed citizens in a rapidly changing world. Our K–12 science curriculum is grounded in Ohio’s Learning Standards and reflects the three-dimensional learning of the Next Generation Science Standards—integrating disciplinary core ideas, science and engineering practices, and crosscutting concepts. From hands-on investigations in elementary classrooms to advanced coursework in high school, we strive to spark curiosity, foster scientific literacy, and nurture the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Our Commitment to K–12 Social Studies Education

Social Studies education plays a vital role in helping students understand the world around them and their place in it. Our K–12 curriculum, aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards, empowers students to explore history, geography, economics, government, and culture through critical thinking and inquiry-based learning. We are committed to building students’ civic knowledge, cultural awareness, and ability to evaluate diverse perspectives. By learning from the past and engaging with current events, our students develop the skills and understanding necessary to become informed, responsible citizens in a global society.
