U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recently visited Waite High School as part of his national Return to School Road Trip — a bus tour to showcase how students and communities are safely returning to in-person learning.

During his stop at Waite, Secretary Cardona met with the school’s SMARTS group. The students explained to him what SMARTS is about and the topics they are currently discussing.

Mr. Cardona challenged the students to use their passion and their voices to make change both at their school and in their community. “Your voice matters – people are watching you,” he said. “Hold yourself accountable and take advantage of the opportunity that is being offered to you.”

After attending the SMARTS meeting, Secretary Cardona took a quick tour of the majestic high school. He also took time for a few photos and shared his gratitude to the district, the school’s administration, and the Board of Education for working together to bring students back to school in a safe environment.

It was certainly a memorable TPS Proud day.
